The Croatian coach will lead the Brazilian national team, the country's basketball federation (CBB) announced. Meanwhile, former NBA center Tiago Splitter will serve as Petrovic's assistant coach, alongside Helinho Garcia, Bruno Savignani, and Demetrius Ferracciu.
"He is respected around the world and knows the challenges we will face against European teams in this Olympic Qualifiers. He has our complete trust, alongside Splitter and the entire coaching staff," said CBB President, Guy Peixoto Jr.
"I'm very happy to return to coach the Brazilian team. Now it's time to focus on the Latvian Olympic Qualifiers in search of an Olympic spot in Paris," Petrovic, who will take over the position from Gustavo Conti, said.
The 65-year-old has already coached the Brazilian national team for a four-year cycle from 2017 until 2021. Both Brazilian players in the EuroLeague - Yago dos Santos and Bruno Caboclo - have already played under Petrovic.
Brazil will compete in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga, Latvia, alongside Georgia, the Philippines, Latvia (all three - Group A), Cameroon, and Montenegro (both in Group B with Brazil). The mini-tournament for a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games starts on July 2nd.
