The Nets finished this season with a 32-50 record and have missed the playoffs in the last six seasons.
Fernandez is taking over coaching duties from interim coach Kevin Ollie.

Nets general manager Sean Marks said Fernandez is the "best coach to lead our team forward."
"Jordi brings a diverse set of experiences and basketball knowledge gained over the course of a coaching career that has taken him around the world. Each step of the way, Jordi has consistently demonstrated the ability to implement strong processes and creative systems designed to optimize each team's specific roster."
Fernandez was an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings in the last two seasons.
He also coaches the Canadian national team, which he led to a bronze medal in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
