"Of course, I'm applying, I've always dreamed of it, and it would be an incredible honor," he told Le Monde. "I have always devoted myself to the French team and this would be a new way to represent the country."
If Gobert succeeds in his ambition, he will become the first basketball player to carry the French flag during the Olympic Games opening ceremony.
Since 2020, France has opted to go with two flag bearers - one man and one woman. Before the change, Teddy Riner (judo) and Martin Fourcade (biathlon) were the lat single flag bearers.
