In an interview with Meridian Sport, the shooting guard talked about the conversation he had with Bogdan Bogdanovic prior to coming to Europe last season and revealed his reasons for leaving Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, which had signed him at the beginning of the 2023-24 season but saw him leave for Tenerife.
"When I decided to come to Europe from the NBA, I invited Bogdan. He gave me some advice. Told me about the coaches, whether I would like them or not," said Guy. "For some reason, whenever I was in the USA, I was always close to Europeans," he revealed.
When asked if he would be comparable to Bogdanovic, who is currently one of the NBA's most deadly shooters, Guy did not put himself close to the Serbian.
"God! I can't compare to him now. He does it on the biggest stage in the world," Guy said. "When I was in Sacramento [Kings], I was much younger [editor's note: he was aged 24 when he joined the Kings]. But he did take care of me. We competed in training. He is a great player," he praised Bogdanovic.
Guy also addressed his departure from PAO, which he says was on friendly terms but that he had a good reason to leave.
"It was a difficult, long road. I fondly remember the time I spent in Greece. I will be friends with all of those guys. More precisely - now is the time to congratulate Grigonis on his birthday. Happy birthday!" the guard said, taking a detour to congratulate the Lithuanian's birthday, which was on April 26.
"We are still in contact. It was difficult, but I felt that I needed to go somewhere to play," Guy continued. "I didn't want to sit somewhere on the bench when I'm in the best moment of my career. And, I came to Tenerife," he concluded.
In the BCL with Tenerife, Guy is currently averaging 21.9 points (BCL's best), 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. In large contrast, he averaged 4 points and 2.4 PIR with Panathinaikos in the EuroLeague.
