In early March, Minnesota's Rudy Gobert received a whopping $100,000 fine for showing the 'money' sign toward Foster in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers after being called a loose ball foul and a technical in the late fourth quarter.
After the game, Gobert said sports betting was ruining the game, indirectly implying that the call might have been related to it.
"I think it’s hurting our game. I know the betting and all that is becoming bigger and bigger, but it shouldn't feel that way," Gobert said after the match.
Foster is jokingly nicknamed The Extender due to his track record of officiating do-or-die games where the team that's trailing in the series pulls out a win. The veteran referee is highly criticized by NBA players, most notably Chris Paul, who has a public beef with the official.
