After their second consecutive elimination from the NBA playoffs at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers find themselves in a tough spot, with head coach Darvin Ham's future hanging in the balance, as reported by The Athletic's Shams Charania, Jovan Buha, and Sam Amick.

Per the same report, some stakeholders have indicated it's highly unlikely he will return. The team's management intends to meticulously review the shortcomings of this season before arriving at a final decision.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN adds that this loss puts Ham's job very much in jeopardy.

"The Lakers plan to conduct a post-mortem on the season in the coming days before making a decision on Ham's future," the NBA insider also writes.

Ham, who signed a four-year deal in 2022 worth around $5 million annually, acknowledged the weight of representing such a storied franchise after the Game 5 defeat.

"It's an unbelievable franchise to represent," Ham said. "I couldn't ask for a better governor, a better president of [basketball operations] in Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss. But I've seen a lot in my first two years in this seat. I'll continue to work, to get better and to control what I can control."

The Lakers finished eighth in the regular season with a 47-35 record but then won a Play-In Tournament game against the New Orleans Pelicans and secured the seventh seed.
