Windhorst identifies three possible motivators for James to consider this. Firstly, he intends to pressure the Lakers to update the roster.
Secondly, the superstar forward wants to see the team draft his son, Bronny James, who the Lakers are in a good position to draft.
Thirdly, if James is to opt out, he can receive a multi-year contract with a no-trade clause, which would be a considerable improvement over his current contract.
Windhorst notes, however, that James does not want to leave the Lakers at this point.
This season, the legend-in-the-making averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. He and the Lakers were eliminated 4-1 by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
