Thompson, currently in the final season of his five-year, $190 million contract with the Golden State Warriors, is earning $43.2 million for the 2023-24 season.
A four-time NBA champion and a five-time NBA All-Star has spent his entire career in the Bay Area after going 11th overall in the 2011 NBA draft.
Before this season began, the Warriors offered Thompson a two-year extension valued at around $48 million, but he declined, hinting at a disparity in expectations between him and the team.
Thompson, 34, faced significant setbacks due to knee and Achilles injuries, causing him to miss two consecutive seasons and a chunk of the 2021-22 season.
However, he made a strong comeback last season, playing 69 games and averaging 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.
This season, his stats have slightly dipped, with averages of 17.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Despite this, Thompson maintained a respectable 43.0% field goal percentage, though his three-point shooting saw a small decline at 38.4%.
