"If he requests [the max extension], we can either accept or say we're gonna think about it. We haven't made a decision on it. I think we make too much out of this. He still has two years left on it."
Butler's current deal, a hefty three-year, $146.4 million agreement inked in the 2021 offseason, is no small commitment.
It includes a guaranteed salary of $48.8 million for the upcoming season, with a player option of $52.4 million for the 2025-26 season. Now, Butler could aim for a two-year, $113 million contract extension in the offseason, replacing the 2025-26 option and kicking off the 2026-27 season.
Under this proposed extension, Butler would pocket $54.3 million in 2025-26, nearly $2 million more than his current option, followed by $58.6 million for the 2026-27 season, when he would be 37 years old. Of course, these figures may fluctuate depending on the NBA's salary cap, as pointed out by Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.
The verdict on whether the Heat will extend this offer to Butler will be reached in the coming months, with the signing window opening on July 7.
In the recently concluded regular season, Butler maintained averages of 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists over 60 games.
