According to Sport Klub, both players and coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos were in favor of moving to a smaller, but "noisier" hall where Zvezda won most of the trophies in the previous decade.
On that occasion, the club tried to explain the decision by sending a letter to its season ticket holders.
"Due to the capacity of the hall, as well as the number of season tickets we have, daily tickets will not be on sale, so only season ticket holders will be in the hall," the club mentions in the letter.
"Regardless of the fact that the decision was not at all easy and brings a large number of challenges primarily in the organization of the match, especially since the number of season tickets is greater than the capacity of the Aleksandar Nikolic hall, we are obliged to explain the decision:
- We believe that the Aleksandar Nikolic hall is the REAL home field for our team, for which we fought fairly despite numerous obstacles during the ABA League season
- The atmosphere from the stands in the Aleksandar Nikolic hall has always been of great help to generations of Red Star players who fought for titles
- Organizationally, we would not be able to prepare optimally for the second match of the final series on May 15, 2024. regardless of the friendliness of the Belgrade Arena due to the previously assumed obligations of that hall
- As much as we are proud of our more than 12,000 season tickets, with certain restrictions and proper planning, we believe that we can organize an important and big game, as we have done countless times so far, and create an atmosphere that will be talked about and that will help our boys."
