The worst fears of the reigning EuroLeague champions, just a few days before they have the chance to defend their title, seem to be confirmed by reality.
According to the Spanish club, after the tests carried out today on Gabriel Deck by the Real Madrid Medical Services, Deck has been diagnosed with a rupture of the internal collateral ligament in his right knee. This means that Deck will miss the rest of the season due to the injury.
After the game, Real Madrid coach Chus Mateo admitted that the club's worried about the injury that Deck may have sustained after spraining his right knee in the match in Valencia.
"We are worried, it was bad. He sprained his knee, let's hope it's nothing, but he is very sore and he went out on crutches. He won't be there for Sunday, that's for sure," Mateo said at the subsequent press conference.
"Hopefully we can get him back, it's a shame because we have taken care of him all year so that he reached the end well and now what happened to him last year is happening to him," added the coach, who said that it was the saddest thing about a match that they lost.
This is not the first time Deck has suffered an injury at decisive moments; on May 6, 2023, he tore the internal collateral ligament in his left knee, saying goodbye to the Final Four.
Deck, 29, extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2028 last summer. In the 2023-24 season, he's averaged 9.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 9.9 in PIR over 28 EuroLeague games (15 as a starter), while his averages in the ACB League have been 8.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 9.2 in PIR after 23 games.
