According to Carlos Pérez de Arrilucea from El Correo, Baskonia and Howard are working to extend the current deal, which runs until June 2026, to last for two more years - until June 2028.

Early in the 2023-24 season, Howard, who had an expiring deal before, signed a contract extension that kept the scorer in Baskonia for two more seasons. Perez de Arrilucea reports that Howard's salary was €3.7 million for three seasons (2023-26).

Now, the new deal would include an extra pay rise that is yet to be agreed on, the journalist writes. Additionally, talks about a possible increase in the buyout amount might be included. Currently, the buyout stands at €1.3 million, Perez de Arrilucea reports.

Howard is currently injured after seemingly pulling his groin just minutes into the Spanish Liga Endesa (ACB) game against UCAM Murcia on Friday. "We don't know anything, they are going to do an MRI. But it doesn't look good," head coach Dusko Ivanovic said after the victory.

Howard won the EuroLeague Alphonso Ford Trophy for the top scorer of the competition this season while setting a new scoring record. He was also granted to play for the Puerto Rican national team.

Baskonia have previously extended the deal with forward Tadas Sedekerskis, keeping the player until 2029.
