Chase Hooper just turned in the best performance of his career.

On Saturday night, Hooper took on Viacheslav Borshchev in the featured prelim fight of UFC St. Louis, and the 24-year-old prospect dazzled with a pillar to post beatdown of Borshchev that ended with a second-round submission and a small amount of controversy.

Heading into the bout, even Hooper agree that this was a striker vs. grappler matchup, which made it all the more surprising when Hooper dropped Borshchev with a big left hook early in bout. From there, Hooper dominated Borshchev relentlessly in the round with punches, elbows, and submission attempts. Borshchev power through and made it to the end of the round, but things didn’t get any better from there.

In the second round, Hooper continues his onslaught, getting the fight to the ground quickly and continuing to dominate Borshchev, to the point that referee Keith Peterson repeatedly warned him he would stop the fight. Borshchev continue to tough it out until Hooper locked in a D’Arce choke. As both fighters rolled, it appeared that Borshchev tapped once on Hooper’s back, causing Peterson to halt the contest, but Borshchev immediately protested. Unfortunately for him, the call stands and Hooper secured the most impressive victory of his young career.
