In a press release by the NBA, it was written that Gobert made "an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture that questions the integrity of the league and its game officials."

The press release also made mention of the fact that this was a repeated offense by Gobert and that this situation contributed to the fine being given to the player.

In March 2024, the star was hit with a huge fine of $100 thousand after making the same gesture and claiming that the NBA referees were being influenced by sports betting after a113-104 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 8.

This time around, the French center made the gesture in a 107-115 loss to the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals. The Nuggets evened the series 2-2 after that game.
