‘What a disgusting stoppage’: Pros react to Chase Hooper’s beatdown, UFC St. Louis referee controversy
Chase Hooper continues to grow before our eyes, delivering the best performance of his career at UFC St. Louis.
However, the way the bout ended had the MMA community scratching their heads.
Hooper earned a second-round submission win over Viacheslav Borshchev at Saturday’s event at the Enterprise Center. The 24-year-old dominated Borshchev in the opening round, making an argument for a rare 10-7 scorecard. Hooper continued his barrage in the second, absolutely battering Borshchev with ground and pound, with referee Keith Peterson giving Borshchev every chance to stay in the fight. Hooper applied a d’arce choke and secured what appeared to be a tap — although upon replay, it certainly seemed questionable.
Some UFC fighters were incredibly impressed by what Hooper did, yet some were not happy with Peterson’s possible misstep in stopping the fight due to a tap that may or may not have happened. Check out their reactions below.
