Fingers crossed: NBA Draft Lottery / News - Basketnews.com
The 2021 NBA Draft Lottery will be held on Tuesday, June 22. 14 non-playoff teams will hold their breath and watch as falling ping-pong balls determine their faith and the order of the 2021 NBA Draft.
The latest NBA Draft Lottery system ensures more parity among league's bottom finishers, however, team with the worst record (Houston Rockets) will receive no worse than the fifth pick. In previous year last place team was guaranteed no lower than the fourth pick.
Another new wrinkle, designed to prevent teams from tanking, levelled odds for the bottom three teams at the top pick in the NBA Draft - each has a 14 percent chance of winning. That is a significant drop from previous structure, which had the worst team set at 25 percent, the second-worst at 19.9 percent and the third-worst at 15.6 percent.
2021 Lottery Odds for No. 1 pick:
Houston > 14.00% Detroit > 14.00% Orlando > 14.00% Oklahoma City > 11.50% Cleveland > 11.50% Minnesota > 9.00% Toronto > 7.50% Chicago > 4.50% Sacramento > 4.50% New Orleans > 4.50% Charlotte > 1.80% San Antonio > 1.70% Indiana > 1.00% Golden State > 0.50%Once the order of the first four picks has been determined, the remaining lottery teams will have picks in inverse order of their regular-season record.
The Draft selections for the remainder of the first round (No. 15-30) and the entire second round (No. 30-60), are determined by reverse order of regular season record. Each NBA team gets one selection in the first round and one selection in the second round.
The 2021 NBA Draft is scheduled to take place on July 29.
