14 basketball players will travel with the Italy national team to the Olympic Qualification Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. Head coach Meo Cachetti will only announce the final twelve before the decisive battles.
Italy's most prominent stars are Dallas Mavericks forward Nicolo Melli and Achille Polonara, who recently signed with the Fenerbahche Beko Istanbul.
The Italians will participate in Group B and will face Puerto Rico and Senegal. Host Serbia, Philippines and Dominican Republic will compete in Group A. The winner of an entire tournament will be awarded ticket to the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The German Basketball Federation reported that player’s insurance requirements were not enforceable. Schroder will become unrestricted free agent this summer.
"It's a pity that the team in Split will have to do without me, but I'm sure that guys will still get to the Olympics," Schroder was quoted. "I look forward to playing in the 2022 European Championship in Germany."
Schroder averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds this season for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Germany will compete in a qualifying tournament in Croatia and will meet with Russia and Mexico in Group A. Croatia, Brazil and Tunisia will compete in Group B.
