The game between 2017 Eurobasket winners and the 33rd ranked team appeared to be a mere formality as Slovenia (1-0) defeated Angola (0-2) 118-68 (33-9, 31-21, 26-14, 28-24).
Player of the Game EFF 24 Luka Doncic Points 13 Accuracy 4-8 Rebounds 6 Assists 9
Slovenians started the game with a 13-0 run and never looked back. Angola managed to score their first points with 6:34 left to play in the first. And despite Luka Doncic only having 3 points, Slovenians found plenty of other offensive weapons, as they had 33-9 lead after one.
The second quarter produced similar results. At 5:15, Jaka Blazic hit a 3-pointer (assisted by Doncic) to reach 50 points. Teams went into halftime with a score 64-30.
The Slovenians displayed much of the same qualities in the second half en route to an easy victory. Eight players scored in double digits, with Zoran Dragic leading the way with 16 points. Luka Doncic had 13 points, nine assists, and five steals.
Yanick Moreira collected 15 points for Angola. The African team is ousted from the tournament after a second straight defeat.
POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE NOTES
Angola's head coach Jose Claros Canals admitted that his team was young and still has ways to go in terms of learning and improving. "They only knew Luca Doncic from their team, but there are other great players, and we saw that tonight. I hope they learn from that."
Luka Doncic was happy to see everyone enjoying the game, being well prepared, and even having the support of Goran Dragic from the stands.
