Korkmaz leads Turkey in win over Czech Republic / News - Basketnews.com

Turkey (2-0) won their second straight game in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Victoria, Canada. They took care of business against Czech Republic (0-1) 87-70 (17-14; 28-24; 18-16; 24-16).

The teams went back and forth in the first quarter, with Turkey gaining a small advantage at the end (17-14).

Even though the Czech Republic were able to regain a lead in the second (26-28), Turkey finished the quarter strong and had an advantage at halftime (45-38).

Turkey continued to extend their lead in the third, gaining a 14-point advantage at one point (59-45). However, Czech Republic weathered the storm and were able to get their deficit down to single-digits at the end of the period (63-54).

The Czechs proceeded to cut Turkey's advantage to seven points at the start of the fourth quarter (68-61). However, that was the best they could do, as the Turks shifted into high gear. They ended the period with a 19-9 run and secured a win, as well as a spot in the OQT semifinals.

Furkan Korkmaz led Turkey with 20 points and four rebounds. He shot four of eight from three and 4 of 10 from inside the line. Melih Mahmutoglu added 13 points, Ersan Ilyasova had 12. Cedi Osman, who had 27 points in his last game, took on more of a facilitator role this game. He ended with 11 points and six assists.

For the Czech Republic, point guard Tomas Satoransky had a team-high 15 points. He also added six assists and five rebounds. Jan Vesely aided him with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
