With multiple negative tests, I wanted to be part of the camp, even though my body was in no physical shape to compete. Ultimately, despite my all-out efforts to recover, it wasn’t possible for me to get ready in time to meet the demands of representing Nigeria in the Olympics at the level that the national team deserves.”
The 33-year-old was CSKA's backup center last season and helped the team win another VTB United League title. He also competed in the EuroLeague Final Four with the Russian powerhouse.
Michael Eric averaged 5.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 6.4 EFF in last season's EuroLeague. In the VTB league, he accumulated 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 10.6 EFF.
Nigeria is part of Group B of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. The African team will face Australia, winner of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Split, Croatia, and winner of OQT in Belgrade, Serbia.
