Spanish veteran Fernando San Emeterio announced his retirement on Saturday. However, he will remain with Valencia Basket and join its coaching staff.

The 37-year-old San Emeterio started playing professionally in 2001. He spent his entire career playing in Spain. The Spanish swingman was a part of CB Ciudad de Valladolid, Girona FC, and TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz.
San Emeterio joined Valencia in 2015 and played six seasons with the team. The 1.99 m forward was a frequent member of the Spanish National Team. He helped Spain win the EuroBasket in 2011 and 2015 while also earning a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics.
San Emeterio averaged 4.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists over 13 minutes in the EuroLeague last season. In the Spanish Liga ACB, he accumulated 5.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists over 14.6 minutes.
The Spaniard will aid Valencia's new head coach Joan Penarroya next year. The team barely missed the EuroLeague playoffs last year, which means they will compete in the EuroCup in the upcoming season.
