Isaiah Canaan will be playing for Unics Kazan for another year, the Russian team announced. The contract extension will be valid until 2022, which means that one of the cornerstones of Unics' impressive run to the EuroCup Finals is set to make his EuroLeague debut. The 30-year-old guard averaged 14.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in the EuroCup last season, while in the VTB League he produced 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. A few days ago, Unics agreed to a two-year extension with forward John Brown.

Canaan, born in Biloxi, began his NBA career in Houston, joining the Rockets as the 34th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. However, he was traded to the Sixers at the trade deadline in 2015, then joined the Bulls for the 2016-17 campaign after spending a season and a half in Philadelphia. He also played for Phoenix, Minnesota, Milwaukee, and the Stockton Kings of the G League, before going overseas to China for the first time in his career.

Overall, the undersized guard posted career averages of 8.1 points and 1.9 assists in 235 NBA games. In the summer of 2020, he was dressed in the green jersey of Unics Kazan on a one-season deal, with an option for a second year. However, the two sides re-negotiated and came up with a new contract that will keep Canaan in Russia for another round.

At the same time, Unics announced Jordan Morgan's departure, exercising the "team option" clause on his contract.
