EuroLeague Players Association and EuroLeague Board sign first-ever collective agreement / News - Basketnews.com
The EuroLeague Commercial Assets Shareholders Executive Board conducted a meeting on July 7 in Barcelona. Among other matters, the Board members agreed to a first-ever collective bargaining agreement with the EuroLeague Players Association (ELPA).
The idea to create the EuroLeague Players Association was first publicly presented in 2019 by retired Slovenian basketball player Bostjan Nachbar.
After its creation, ELPA has been working hard on achieving a higher level of protection of players’ individual and collective rights and improving the working conditions, economic benefits, and job security of all its members.
ELPA has already enforced improvements in managing player workloads in training camps and practices during the season. They have also implemented new rules for traveling to away games, prohibited teams from fining players for poor performance and losses, and more.
The deal is expected to be a three-year agreement and theEuroLeague and the ELPA will announce further details in the coming weeks.
