Veteran point guard Omar Cook finds in Zaragoza his seventh Spanish team / News - Basketnews.com
Casademont Zaragoza and Omar Cook (39, 1.87) have reached a one-year agreement. Cook, a player with extensive experience in the ACB League, becomes the fifth signing of the Aragonese team for the 2021-22 campaign, after the incorporation of Santi Yusta, Jamel McLean, Hans Vanwijn, and Stan Okoye. After being selected with the 32nd pick in the 2001 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic, Cook began his professional career in the United States. The Fayetteville Patriots became his home on two different occasions, interspersed by his stay with the Portland Trail Blazers and followed by his signing with the Toronto Raptors. A stage before making the decision to make the leap to Europe to build a prestigious career in the old continent. In more than a decade, he has worn the colors of Belfius Mons-Hainaut, BK Samara, Strasbourg IGB, AX Armani Exchange Milan, Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius, and Buducnost, outside of Spain. Several stages that he combined with his stays in Spain, a country in which he played for 9 seasons. Cook went through the ranks of Unicaja Malaga, Valencia Basket, Caja Laboral Baskonia, Movistar Estudiantes, Herbalife Gran Canaria and, finally, San Pablo Burgos. In this last season, Cook had 5.1 points and 5.6 assists, raising this last figure to 6.6 in the BCL, a competition in which he ended up being crowned as champion in the final 8 held in Russia.
"The signing of Omar Cook gives us consistency and solidity. He's an experienced player, very knowledgeable of the Spanish League, a very good defender, and a great point guard. This means that we have concluded our roster in the guard position with him and Rodrigo San Miguel. Cook's signing will allow us to take full advantage of the offensive virtues of the rest of the players, both inside and outside the paint because he is a very good passer that will enrich our game, not so much with points although he is able to take responsibility for scoring if necessary. He is a team player and for the team spirit that we have, he can do very well," Casademont Zaragoza head coach Jaume Ponsarnau remarked.
