Juancho Hernangomez on track to recover in time for Olympics / News - Basketnews.com
The Spanish National Team received some good news going into the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Head coach Sergio Scariolo said that Juancho Hernangomez's shoulder was healing faster than expected. He expects the Spanish big man to be ready to suit up in Tokyo.
“He is progressing well. The cooperation with the Timberwolves has been great. I am optimistic because all the tests have been positive,” Scariolo said.
Hernangomez dislocated his shoulder in a friendly match against France on July 8. Initially, he was expected to miss this summer's Olympic tournament.
The 25-year-old averaged 7.2 points and 3.9 rebounds over 16.9 with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season.
In the 2019 Basketball World Cup, Hernangomez accumulated 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds over 23 minutes. He converted 70.4% of his 2-pointers (19 from 27), and 44% of threes (11 from 25).
The Tokyo Olympics kick off in six days. Spain are in Group C, where they will face Argentina, Slovenia, and Japan.
