Barcelona announce point guard Rokas Jokubaitis / News - Basketnews.com
FC Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Lithuanian point guard Rokas Jokubaitis. Both sides agreed to a four-year guaranteed contract, which could keep him in Spain until 2025.
Jokubaitis is set to earn somewhere around €250,000 in his first season with Barcelona.
Jokubaitis will transfer to Barca from Zalgiris Kaunas, where he spent his entire career. According to BasketNews sources, the Lithuanian powerhouse will receive around €230,000 buyout for Jokubaitis.
However, there is still a chance that Jokubaitis will not wear the Catalan club shirt. If he is selected in the NBA Draft and the team that picks Jokubaitis decides to sign him, then the playmaker would play in the NBA. In such a case, Zalgiris Kaunas would receive a buyout ($750,000 according to BasketNews sources).
Earlier this year, Jokubaitis has declared for the 2021 NBA Draft, which is set to take place on July 29. The 20-year-old (1.93) is projected to be selected in the second round. ESPN's Jonathan Givony projects the 45th pick for Jokubaitis. The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor has him going in the first round (26th overall) to the Denver Nuggets.
In last season's EuroLeague, Jokubaitis averaged 7.0 points, 2.5 assists, 1.7 rebounds, and 6.8 EFF over 21 minutes. In the Lithuanian LKL League, the guard accumulated 8.3 points, 4.0 assists, 1.6 rebounds, and 9.3 EFF over 20 minutes.
