After Darrun Hilliard, FC Bayern Munich have been able to get another player with plenty of EuroLeague experience. For the next season, the German powerhouse will be counting on American center Othello Hunter, 35, who won the continental title with CSKA Moscow in 2019 and last played for Maccabi Tel Aviv, ironically Bayern's opponent at next season's EuroLeague opener, on 30 September.

The former NBAer (23 games for the Atlanta Hawks in the 2008-2009 campaign) is without question one of the most effective big men in recent years, averaging 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per EuroLeague contest, over 216 games. With Olympiacos Piraeus, he went to a EuroLeague final four the first time in 2015 (10 points and 7 rebounds against Real Madrid), before he was able to win the crown with CSKA in his second final two years ago (7 points in the win against Efes).

Othello Hunter, currently residing in Charlotte, North Carolina, told Bayern's official website: "To be honest, I hadn't thought much about basketball in the last few weeks after the two not-so-easy years with the Covid situation, and above all, I wanted to recover. But when the offer from Bayern came - and with coach Trinchieri, whom I have been following and know for a long time, it was a no-brainer. We have spoken – and we simply have the same views. I'm looking forward to joining Bayern and we should definitely become a playoff team again, which they did for the first time last season. But actually, my goal is always to reach the Final Four and win championships and cups. I will do the same with Bayern.“

FC Bayern sporting Director Daniele Baiesi added: "The career and achievements Othello has made in his life speak for themselves. Nevertheless, he showed everyone that there is still a lot more to his game than meets the eye. His presence on the court and in the locker room is unmeasurable to us. We are incredibly proud that such a great and highly decorated player will play for us and be by our side.“

In addition to his stints in Italy and China, Othello Hunter also had a year at Real Madrid (2016 – 2017, averaging 7.6 points, 4.5 rebounds), where he won the Copa del Rey. In total, the 2.03-meter big man from North Carolina has won eleven trophies since 2013.
