Timberwolves interested in veteran Mike Conley Jr.
Add the Minnesota Timberwolves as another team interested inveteran point guard Mike Conley Jr. ahead of the Feb. 9 tradedeadline, writes Shams Charania of TheAthletic.
He detailed that the Timberwolves have a decision to makeregarding D'Angelo Russell who is on an expiring $31.4M deal withit being unlikely that he will sign an extension. If he leaves viafree agency this summer, Minnesota would lose out on a valuablesalary slot that it could use to upgrade its roster.
Minnesota has been looking around the league for a dealinvolving Russell while also looking for another pointguard.
The Los Angeles Clippers are another team that is reportedly interested in Conleywho is averaging 10.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists whileshooting 38% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range.Conley is making $22.3M this season and has a partial guarantee of$14.3M for the 2023-24 season.
There have also been rumors that the Miami Heat would beinterested in acquiring Russell for Kyle Lowry but the Timberwolvesare not interesting in taking on his contract which is $28.3M thisseason and fully guaranteed for $29.7 next season.
