Last season’s Israelian league finalist calls it a day: Hapoel Gilboa Galil has ceased operations / News - Basketnews.com
Hapoel Gilboa Galil, last season’s Israelian league finalist, has ceased the operations.
Per Gilboa Regional Council announcement, following the death of Haim Ohayon, the family decided to stop supporting the club after 18-year activities.
"For the past 18 years, the late entrepreneur and businessman Haim Ohayon has led the team to the top of Israeli basketball,” reads the statement of the family.“This is out of ideology and a desire to promote and highlight the periphery of the State of Israel and lead it to the Israeli sports and cultural center.”
“Over the years, the team has climbed to impressive sporting heights, stood out at the top of professional basketball, and swept away countless fans and teens who saw the team as a major anchor.
The family is proud of the fact that throughout the period, the group respectfully represented the periphery, the working-class settlement, and all the residents,” added the Ohayon family.
During the history of the club, Hapoel Gilboa Galil won two Israelian league championships (1993 and 2010), two State Cups (1988 and 1992), and two Balkan League titles (2012 and 2013).
In the last season’s Israelian league final, Hapoel Gilboa Galil lost 1-2 to Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv.
