Latvian player helped his team win gold with a broken leg / News - Basketnews.com
The Latvian 3x3 National Team won gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics yesterday. It turns out that one of the team's members, Edgars Krumins, played with a broken leg.
The 35-year-old suffered a leg injury in the finals against Russia. He hobbled off the court, however, the team's doctor wrapped it up, and Krumins returned to action.
Later on, the Latvian hurt his leg again after attempting to stop one of the Russian players under the basket. He left the game and did not return, forcing Latvia to play without him for the remaining two minutes.
His team eventually beat Russia 21-19 and won the country's first Olympic medals since 2012.
"We saw that Edgars really wanted to return to the court and help us win. We are thankful for his selflessness and effort," his teammate Nauris Miezis said to delfi.lv.
Krumins is the most experienced 3x3 player on the Latvian squad. He represented the senior NT in the 2012 Olympics.
