Historic run continues: Luka Doncic and Slovenia advance to Olympic semi-finals / News - Basketnews.com

In the first Tokyo Olympic Basketball Tournament quarter-finals, Luka Doncic's Slovenia roll past Germany 94-70 (25-14, 19-23, 22-17, 28-16) to advance to the semi-finals.

Doncic was magnificent once again, scoring 20 points (6/11 2PT, 2/7 3PT, 2/2 FT), and adding 11 assists, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals in 33.3 minutes.

He was aided by Zoran Dragic, who barely missed a shot. He ended with 27 points (6/6 2PT, 5/7 3PT), 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 turnover, and 37 PIR over 29.5 minutes.

In the Olympic semifinal, Slovenia will face the winners of the matchup between France and Italy.

The game was tied at the beginning of the first quarter (8-8), however, Germany could not keep up with Slovenia for long. They went on a 17-4 run to finish the period and gain a double-digit lead (25-14).

Germany did play well in the second, with Maodo Lo hitting three consecutive 3-pointers to get back in front with 5:22 remaining (31-32). But Slovenia finished the half strong, gaining a seven-point advantage. Doncic had only six points and six assists in the first half.

He heated up in the third, scoring nine points and helping Slovenia propel their lead even further. After a Luka 3-pointer, his team was once again in front by double-digits (51-39). Joshiko Saibou finished the period with a last-second layup to bring his team back within 12 and keep their hopes alive.

However, Slovenia didn't allow the Germans to even think about victory in the fourth. They held a firm advantage for the entire quarter and became out of reach after a 3-pointer by Klemen Prepelic with 5:18 on the clock (82-63). In the end, Slovenia took a comfortable 94-70 victory to advance to the semis.

The 2017 EuroBasket winners were lights-out shooters in this game. They made 19 of 28 from 2-point range (68%) and 15 of 35 from three (43%). In comparison, Germany only converted on 38% of their field goals (24 of 63). Slovenia also outrebounded the Germans 31-20.
