Wizards add Spencer Dinwiddie in sign-and-trade / News - Basketnews.com

The Washington Wizards acquired guard Spencer Dinwiddie from the Brooklyn Nets via sign-and-trade in a five-team deal, ESPN and The Athletic reported Wednesday.

The transaction is being wrapped into the Wizards' blockbuster trade that shipped Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Wizards are dealing forward Chandler Hutchison and a 2022 second-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs, while the Nets receive a second-rounder from Washington in 2024 and a pick swap in 2025.

The Indiana Pacers are the final team involved, having acquired No. 22 overall draft pick Isaiah Jackson from the Lakers via Washington on draft night. The Wizards got Aaron Holiday and No. 31 overall pick Isaiah Todd in return.

As Westbrook left for a super-team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Los Angeles, the Wizards needed a point to pair with shooting guard Bradley Beal, and Dinwiddie was their target. He will reportedly receive a three-year, $62 million contract.

Dinwiddie, 28, is recovering from a partial ACL tear in his right knee that ended his 2020-21 season prematurely after he only played in three games.

In seven career seasons with the Detroit Pistons (2014-16) and Nets (2016-21), Dinwiddie has career averages of 12.9 points and 5.0 assists per game over 320 career games (133 starts).

The Wizards' rebuilt roster now includes Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope -- all of whom are arriving from the Lakers in the Westbrook deal -- plus Dinwiddie. The franchise continues to try to build a winner around its cornerstone, Beal, the NBA's second-leading scorer last season and a perennial subject of trade rumors.
