Predicting the future is never easy, especially when it involves sporting events. BasketNews did the Olympic pre-tournament power rankings, and there were obvious discrepancies with the final results even with eight of our finest experts participating.

But RunRepeat took basketball predicting to another level. 83 basketball journalists and analysts were summoned to answer an 11-question survey and predict medalists, over/underachievers, and best players of the men's Tokyo basketball tournament.

Here are the most interesting findings that show how both accurate and inaccurate basketball experts could be.

Most successful predictions:

USA - winning a gold medal(72.3% of votes) Luka - the best passer of the tournament (55.4%) Luka - top scorer of the tournament (51.8%) KD - MVP of the tournament (49.4%)

Least expected, but it actually happened:

Mike Tobey - top rebounder of the tournament (0.0% of votes) France - winning a silver medal (13.3%) Slovenia - the best offense in the tournament (14.5%) Australia - winning a bronze medal (18.1%)

Most expected, but it didn't happen:

The USA - the best offense in the tournament (75.9% of votes) Spain - winning a medal (70.7%) Rudy Gobert - top rebounder of the tournament(59.0%) Spain - the best defense in the tournament (30.1%) France underachieving (26.5%) Nigeria overachieving (28.9%) Subscribe to BN+ and get access to exclusive content.
