The deal is for two years, with an NBA out in the summer of 2022.

The point guard was second on Italy in scoring (12.5 ppg.) and led the team with 4.5 assists per game in the recently completed Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he helped Italy reach the quarterfinals.

"Nico has been one of the most important targets and the negotiations to bring him to play at the Segafredo Arena have been going on for several weeks," CEO of Virtus Segafredo Bologna Luca Baraldi said. "If Mannion has arrived at Virtus it is thanks to the work and teamwork put in place by the top management of the club, together with our coach Sergio Scariolo. I would like to give a special mention to Paolo Ronci, who has believed from the beginning that he could successfully complete this important operation".

Mannion, born in Siena in 2001, played for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA and Santa Cruz in the G League last season. He averaged 4.1 points and 2.3 assists in 30 games for the Golden State and 19.3 points and 6.9 assists with Santa Cruz. It was his first professional season after playing college basketball at the University of Arizona. His father, Pace Mannion, played for a decade in the Italian League and helped Cantu win the 1991 Korac Cup.
