After a year without fans, Zalgiris announce plans for spectators in 2021-22 / News - Basketnews.com
Zalgiris Kaunas will offer 3000 season tickets to their fans for the upcoming season, as the team is getting ready to welcome back live audience after almost a year of no-spectator basketball.
Coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty around it halted the Lithuanian champions from offering season tickets last season, but this year's ticket sales will start on Thursday. Season tickets are being offered at 129 Euros on the first floor of Zalgirio Arena.
Each sector has half of its’ tickets available for purchase, meaning around 3000 season tickets will be made available. Currently, there are no plans for the sale of larger amounts, as the club tries to ensure there's room for any possible pandemic limitations.
Only spectators with a national 'Opportunity passport' will be allowed to the arena. Such passport is granted for vaccinated people or the ones having negative coronavirus PCR test.
In a statement released by the club, Zalgiris said they were encouraging the green-and-whites to prepare for the season by getting vaccinated now and, thus, avoiding testing prior to each game.
Zalgiris Honor Club members and 2019-2020 season ticket holders will be the first ones eligible to purchase a season ticket for the upcoming season, with the public sale starting a month later, on the 15th of September.
If games were canceled or additional limitations on fan attendance were implemented, Zalgiris season ticket holders would be given a respective compensation.
Season ticket sales will only be carried out online, with the ticket desks at Zalgirio Arena not open. This season, physical season ticket cards will not be handed out, with a digital season ticket (that can also be printed) available on mobile devices.
Last season Zalgiris played without spectators in all but 3 EuroLeague games and were not selling season tickets at all.
Before that, Zalgiris were leading the EuroLeague and European basketball overall in ticket sales for three straight seasons, averaging 14,221 fans per game in 2019-2020.
