French silver medalist Petr Cornelie might not return to Europe after the end of the Olympic Games. According to a report from Gabriel Pantel-Jouve of BeBasket, the French big man might be headed for the NBA.
Petr Cornelie
Position:CAge:26Height:209 cmWeight:100 kgBirth place:FranceProfileNewsStatisticsCornelie was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the 2016 NBA Draft with 53rd pick overall. Since then, though, he has always remained in France.
Over the last 18 months, his numbers have consistently started to grow. Last season with Pau-Lacq Orthez, he averaged 14.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting an impressive 44% from the 3-point line. Despite being on the radar of several European clubs, including EuroLeague newcomer's AS Monaco, the player, represented by Comsport boss Bouna Ndiaye, is probably leaning towards his NBA dream.
During the off-season, so far, the Nuggets have re-signed Will Barton, JaMychal Green, and Austin Rivers. They were also able to sign veteran free agent Jeff Green. A little more depth in the frontcourt might still be useful for the team coached by Michael Malone and Cornelie might fit the profile, especially with his three-point touch.
