Lakers acquire Rui Hachimura from Wizards for Kendrick Nunn, picks

The Los Angeles Lakers have completed a trade that will bring inWashington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura in exchange for KendrickNunn and three second-round draft picks.

"Adding both size and depth to the wing position has been agoal, and the chance to accomplish that by acquiring a player withRui’s two-way skills and upside was an opportunity that doesn’tpresent itself often," Lakers vice president of basketballoperations and general manager Rob Pelinka said.

The news was first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and theinitial framework of the deal was reported by The Athletic's ShamsCharania.

The specific picks involved are the Chicago Bulls' 2023second-rounder, LA's 2029 second-rounder and the less favorablesecond-rounder between the Lakers and Wizards in 2028.

Hachimura recently danced around the subject of whetherhe wanted a trade in his latest media session with the Wizardson Saturday, keeping a vague stance when asked about his name intalks. He was also excused from practice on Monday for personalreasons.

Hachimura and Washington were unable to reach a rookie contractextension before the season and this, coupled with Kyle Kuzma'semergence, increased the likelihood of a trade. Also, according toWojnarowski, the Lakers intend on signing Hachimura, a restrictedfree agent, to a contract extension this summer.

On the season, Hachimura is averaging 13.0 points, 4.3 reboundsand 1.2 assists per game, knocking down a career-best 54.5% of histwo-point shots.
