German point guard Dennis Schroder is officially a new player of the Boston Celtics, the team announced in a press release. Schroder had agreed to a one-year deal, worth around $5.9 million. The point guard spent the last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 15.4 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Schroder, who missed the Olympics due to insurance issues, made the news in the past months because he reportedly turned down a four-year $84 million contract extension offer from the Los Angeles Lakers during the season. The point guard hoped that he could sign a more lucrative deal during the free agency, but such an offer didn't arrive, so in the end, he decided to sign a short-term deal to become again a free agent next summer and try to sign a multi-year contract then.

The point guard was originally drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2013 NBA Draft with the 17th pick overall.
