NBA Summer League: Quentin Grimes made the difference for the Knicks / News - Basketnews.com

The NBA Summer League continued with eight games on Monday (16/8). First-round pick Quentin Grimes knocked down 6 of the Knicks' 21 3-pointers to score a game-high 26 points in a strong closeout performance against the Hawks (104-85) on Monday night.

Grimes was coming off of another big game in Saturday’s win over the Cavaliers, when he went for 28 points and six 3-pointers to go with six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Over his six Summer League appearances, he averaged 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3 assists, shooting 40.7% from 3-point territory.

Selected 25th overall in the 2021 Draft, he spent his final two collegiate seasons at the University of Houston after transferring from Kansas. During his junior season, he helped lead the Cougars all the way to the Final Four, where they fell to eventual champion Baylor.

New York Knicks - Atlanta Hawks 104-85Quentin Grimes scored a game-high 26 points, together with six rebounds and three assists. Immanuel Quickley went just 3-for-18 from the field but finished with 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists. DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell was the only Hawks starter in double figures, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Chicago Bulls - Charlotte Hornets 99-74

Ayo Dosunmu scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Chicago Bulls which had four other players score in double digits, including Tyler Bey, who logged 13 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Jerome Robinson and Jaylen Adams also chipped in 13 points each, while Marko Simonovic added 10 points.

Kai Jones and Scottie Lewis tallied 16 points each to lead the way for the Hornets. JT Thor added 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, while LiAngelo Ball had a tough night, with six points on 3-for-13 shooting.

Indiana Pacers - Washington Wizards 74-65Second-year guard Cassius Stanley led the Pacers with 19 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Keifer Sykes added 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals on his way to finishing as a team-best plus-27 in 26 minutes. First-round pick Isaiah Jackson amassed 11 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks in just 21 minutes.

Denver Nuggets - Milwaukee Bucks 94-87Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland led the Bol Bol-less Nuggets with 20 points, two rebounds, and five assists. Deonte Burton totaled 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Former Wisconsin Badger D’Mitrik Trice led the Bucks, who were without Jordan Nwora, with 24 points and three assists off the bench. Sandro Mamukelashvili tallied 20 points and seven boards. Jemerrio Jones also provided five points, 13 rebounds and five assists off the bench as well.

Oklahoma City Thunder - San Antonio Spurs 116-91Rob Edwards led Oklahoma City with 23 points off the bench. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl led the starters with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Aaron Wiggins amassed 10 points, four rebounds and five assists. Josh Hall also came up big off the bench to provide 17 points and seven boards.The Thunder were once again without No. 6 overall pick Josh Giddey, who sat out the final four games of Summer League with a sprained ankle. San Antonio was without its 2021 lottery pick, Josh Primo, while last year’s first-rounder, Devin Vassell, also sat out.Cleveland Cavaliers - Phoenix Suns 88-85Tre Scott led the Cavaliers with 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Jaylen Hands and Matt Ryan came off the bench to drop 15 points apiece. No. 3 overall pick Evan Mobley did not play.Kyle Alexander led the Suns with 18 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Michael Frazier II generated 17 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jaleen Smith also finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Detroit Pistons - Orlando Magic 79-78Luka Garza scored a game-high 21 points and hauled in 15 rebounds in 26 minutes as he led the way for the Pistons. Saben Lee followed up with 19 points and eight assists, while Jamorko Pickett chipped in 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block.Hassani Gravett led the Magic with 19 points and four rebounds. Ignas Brazdeikis followed up with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Janis Timma chipped in 10 points and three rebounds.

Memphis Grizzlies - L.A. Clippers 104-95Shaq Buchanan scored a game-high 21 points for the winners. Sam Merrill also came up large for the Grizzlies with 20 points, five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block, while Olivier Sarr logged 18 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and a block.Brandon Boston Jr. led the way for the Clippers with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Amir Coffey added 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Jason Preston chipped in 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and a block.
