Partizan reportedly close to Israeli guard Yam Madar / News - Basketnews.com
Boston Celtics draft pick Yam Madar could be headed to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia, according to Israeli reporter Omri Manheim. The Israeli guard, who is currently in the United States in the NBA Summer League with Boston, appears to have a backup plan in case the team that drafted him 47th in 2020 decides he needs another season overseas. For starters, Sports Rabbi’s Joshua Halickman reported that Madar has an offer from German team Ratiopharm Ulm which also competes in EuroCup play. Killian Hayes of the Detroit Pistons is the last player to make the leap to the NBA from that club.
However, it seems that there's another, more powerful candidate, craving his services. The 20-year-old guard was reportedly contacted by Zeljko Obradovic himself, who tried to persuade him to join Partizan. According to Manheim, Madar is expected to sign a two-year contract, with an option for a third season, with the Serbian giant.
Partizan is also expected to pay the buyout on his contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv, about $250,000, thus releasing Madar for the upcoming season. Per the same report, the Boston Celtics offered him a two-way contract, but he is expected to prefer the offer from Partizan. After the Celtics signed point guard Dennis Schroder on a value deal, Madar making the team became an uphill battle and a groin injury may have shut the door on the Israeli making the team this season.
