The coach who took the German national team to the Tokyo Olympic Games will vacate his duties after August 31, the German Basketball Federation announced on its website.

“We thank Henrik very much for his good and intensive work.He meticulously looked after the team and successfully developed players. Now we have decided, despite the Olympic success and with a view to the EuroBasket 2022 in our own country, to set new, fresh impulses in this position. We wish Henrik all the best and are sure to see him again soon in another responsible position,” said the federation's Vice President for competitive sports Armin Andres.

“It is also my feeling that with a successful result in the back you can part ways.I am grateful to everyone involved that participating in the Olympic Games in Tokyo has fulfilled a lifelong dream for me.I am proud to have been part of many special successes in my varied time with the national team.It was an honor for me to have worked with the many different squads and players and I wish them all success,” said Rodl in a statement released by the federation.

Rodl took over the position of the national coach from Chris Fleming after the EuroBasket 2017. He led the team to the 2019 World Cup in China. This past summer Germany made a bigger leap by qualifying for the Olympic Games for the first time since 2008. In Tokyo, Germany advanced to the medal round where they lost to Slovenia and finished 8th.

As a national team coach, Henrik Rodl accumulated a record of 27 wins and 16 defeats.
