Paris Basketball: 'We want to become the second Paris club behind PSG' / News - Basketnews.com
Former Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations, David Khan, is the current team president of the Paris Basketball - a team established three years ago.
Next season, Paris Basketball will make their French LNB Pro A debut, but Khan aims for much higher goals in Paris.
"We want to be competitive. We will compete with teams with a strong budget who will even play in the Euroleague. However, we want to develop quality basketball. Qualifying for the playoffs? I do not know yet. I hope we will fight for that."
According to Khan, the team's main goal is to establish its name on the international stage: "In the next two years, we will work closely with our partners and with the city of Paris to build a new basketball arena. We will have to ensure that this forum is at the forefront in Europe. It is of utmost importance. A fundamental next step. It will take most of my time over the next two years."
Khan also mentioned when he sees his team win the domestic French league: "Yes, it is by 2026. I'm not saying it will happen. I say it is possible."
Two other premier French league clubs reside in the Paris region - Nanterre 92 and Metropolitans 92. However, Khan is not worried about the competition.
"New York has two NBA teams, two American football teams, two baseball teams, three hockey teams, two football teams. Not to mention the universities. I don't consider Paris and even the suburbs totally congested by sport. There is room for everyone. However, in time, we would like to become a flagship club, the second big club in Paris behind PSG and its football team."
