AS Monaco faced some hardship, but in the end prevailed over Peristeri BC90-78 (23-22, 30-18,19-23, 18-15)in the opening game of “bwin TOURNAMENT AGAINST COVID-19” organized byOlympiacos Piraeusat the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

The EuroLeague newcomers will be facing the winner of the Olympiacos - Lavrio BC clash on Sunday.

Monaco scored a total of 30 points in the second period, going 20 of 28 from the free-throw line in the first half. Overall, the French team outrebounded the Greeks by 44-28. Andjusic scored 23, Diallo chipped in 19 and Motiejunas added 12 for the winners.

On the other end, Moreira poured 17 points and Miller added 15, most of which came in the second half.

The two teams were exchanging blows at the beginning. Monaco hit three shots from behind the 3-point line to take a small edge (17-12) seven minutes into the game. Former Virtus Bologna center Yannick Moreira scored 8 points in the first quarter to tie it at 18 apiece.

Being 13 points down at half-time, Peristeri re-entered the court with increased intensity, and, thanks to 8 consecutive points by Ian Miller, got closer (57-51). That’s when Alpha Diallo showed up again with 5 points, restoring his team’s lead to double digits.

Nevertheless, the Athens-based squad came back once again, trimming the deficit to just four (76-72) with 5 minutes remaining. Moreira and Chrysikopoulos were pivotal in that development since they stood up against the more athletic bigs of Monaco. A dagger by the Greek international made it a one-point game (78-77), but Monaco were able to hold their own on defense and secure the victory, sealed and signed by another shot from downtown by Andjusic.

AS Monaco: Andjusic 23, Diallo 19, Motiejunas 12 (10 REB), Motum 11, Boutsielle 9, Lee 7, Ouattara 6, Hall 3 (9 REB).

Peristeri BC: Moreira 17, Miller 15, Petteway 11, Chrysikopoulos 9, Katsivelis 8, Brown 7 (7 REB), Mc Gree 4, Moraitis 2, Tola 2, Saloustros 2, Hagins 1.
