Olympiacos crush BCL newcomers Lavrio behind great team performance / News - Basketnews.com
Olympiacos Piraeus cruised past Lavrio BC 99-64 (27-15, 23-12, 23-24, 26-13) in the second semi-final of the “bwin TOURNAMENT AGAINST COVID-19”, organized by the Reds at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.
Bartzokas’s squad will face AS Monaco, who downed Peristeri, in Sunday’s final game (19:30 CET). The othertwo Greek teams will play for third place honors at 17:00.
The hosts put the foot on the gas right from the start, taking a double-digit lead in the first quarter thanks to 10 points by Sasha Vezenkov. Bartzokas's men fostered a quick-pace game that Lavrio could not follow. Sloukas called plays and occasionally made some threes to boost the offense, while the Reds absolutely dominated the boards with Fall, Jean-Charles and Martin.
The half-time score was 50-27 and a few minutes into the third quarter, the margin reached its highest point (60-31) after a three-point shot by Larentzakis. Aminu scored 6 in a row to cut down the deficit to 23 (60-37) and Jahvor Blair put up another 8 for struggling Lavrio but nothing changed. Olympiacos, who got 15 steals out of Lavrio's 18 turnovers, were simply too much to handle for the BCL newcomers. By the passage of time, the three-time EuroLeague champs kept scoring at will, while Bartzokas used all of his players.
It should be noted that Lavrio BC will be using the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Pireaus as their home court in the BCL.
