Trinchieri: ‘We’ll be good; how good, I don’t know - but good’ / News - Basketnews.com
Bayern Munich’s head coach Andrea Trinchieri and general manager Marko Pesic answered the media’s question before the upcoming season.
Trinchieri spoke about his team, goals for the upcoming season but, most importantly, was very happy seeing Paul Zipser on the court again.
“It will be a long process for him, but to have him here is a gift,” official Bayern's website quotes Trinchieri. “We are all happy about it. He is now allowed to train individually, and we will see how it goes on in the next few weeks.”
“He's super motivated, that's how he infects us. Having a schedule for him would be unfair. Little things are big with him now. I will support him 100 percent, and I am convinced that he will come back,” the Italian added.
Asked about the possible style of this team, Trinchieri said it’s too early to tell.
“We are currently missing some players again. Weiler-Babb trained here for the first time, and Rubit had never trained with the team before. But everything is in flux; I am learning and studying my team. I have a picture frame, but I haven't chosen the colors of the painting yet. Are we going Dutch? Or is it Picasso? Let's see,” said Trinchieri.

“We don't have a dominant center, but rather variable centers that can play several positions. The one who does well is Andy (Obst), whom I once left behind as a child - and now he's a man.I think he still has a lot of room to improve.
Jaramaz is doing very well, too, and so is Walden. But I've trained both of them before, so they know me, and I know them. No more can be said now, we are navigating our way through this phase. We swapped a lot of players, so I'll have to look at everything first. Last year our preparation was a horror. This time I'll take my time,” Trinchieri told.
The head coach also admitted that he expected departures of Jalen Reynolds and Wade Baldwin and was prepared for it.
“Many contracts just expired. Our two best players were signed, Reynolds and Baldwin. We knew that beforehand, and we can cope with it. We are lucky to have kept a very strong structure after a fantastic season: with Lucic, our leader, with Sisko, Babb, Paul, and Leon.
Babb is only coming back now, and Leon and Paul are currently missing. Of course, that slows down the process. But I'm confident. It will take time, but we will be fine. How good, I don't know - but good,” Trinchieri said.
Trinchieri was also very happy about Othello Hunter’s arrival and stated that the forward will be a part of a team’s backbone.
“Sometimes you notice after just three sentences that the other person unexpectedly has the same point of view,” Trinchieri said. “Othello is a leader, very experienced; he arrived very well prepared, in better shape than some of the younger ones, that tells me everything. He wants to win, I want to win, Lucca wants to win. They are our backbone.”

The defensewill be the key to the system more than ever. My dream is that I only have to change a player because he left everything on the court, for whatever time,” Trinchieri added.
Asked about the upcoming season’s goals, Trinchieri hoped for one: no-losing mentality.
“I spent the whole summer thinking about what I want to achieve. Last season we had an imperfect team, but they found a way to play almost perfectly, and that's not including basketball.
The spirit was unique. We had so many comebacks against such strong teams. I want to recreate this no-losing mentality. It's more important than teaching things,” Trinchieri said.
“I see us in 18th place in the EuroLeague now, but I want to improve by one position every day. All teams are better now, the transfers, the names were incredible again in the summer. So the goal now is to come up from below again. We want to win every game, no matter who is tired or injured,” the coach added.

“We worked very well together so that the squad now looks what it looks like. I think the coach is happy with how the team has developed;so am I, and so are the players who stayed.
I don't know how we compare to the other clubs' budgets. But compared to 2019, we, of course, had a significant financial cut last season. We are now slightly above last season's budget but far below what we invested in the team two years ago. So it was a challenge, but putting it together was a lot of fun.
The pandemic certainly has an impact on the financial side of many clubs. But I do think the way we played last season had an effect on the players and agents. We haven't done financially crazy things because we simply can't.
We're certainly more interesting to players than we were two or three years ago. And we have a coach who also plays a role that players come. Some clubs still have a lot of money, but that is no longer the only criteria for many players. The pandemic has already changed the situation,” Pesic said.
