Report: Svetislav Pesic in talks with Serbian federation to become the new head coach of the national team / News - Basketnews.com
According to Mozzartsport, there's a strong possibility that Svetislav Pesic, former FC Barcelona head coach, could replace Igor Kokoskov on the Serbian's NT bench. The talks between the two sides have already begun but there are still several details to hash out before the deal becomes official.
Coach Pesicwants to have a certain level of autonomy in his job. According to Mozzartsport, Pesic wants to pick his staff and the sports director of the national team. Pesic won the European Championship in 2001 and the FIBA World Cup in 2002 as head coach of the Serbia & Montenegro national team.
Rumors about the possibility of a change on the Serbian NT bench started to spread right after their loss in the Pre-Olympic Tournament. Serbia lost to Italy, failing to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. Igor Kokoskov, especially in Serbia, was considered as the main responsible for the failure in the Pre-Olympic Tournament and now it looks like he won't be in the head coaching seat anymore.
