Source: Virtus Bologna agree to a deal with Ty-Shon Alexander / News - Basketnews.com
Italian EuroCup squad Virtus Bologna agreed in a principle to a deal with American guard Ty-Shon Alexander, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Basketnews. Virtus Bologna's interest in the player was first reported by Superbasket. The expectation is that the deal between the two sides will become official in the coming days, a source told Basketnews.
A former Creighton alum, Alexander spent his rookie season in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns under a two-way contract but played only 15 games with the team, averaging a little bit more than 3 minutes per game. In the G League, he played with the Canton Charge, averaging 9.3 points per game while shooting 38% from three-point.
Virtus was looking for a young player in the backcourt that could help them covering the absence of Nico Mannion but who can also be a part of the future of the team. That's why they explored the NBA/G-League market in search of an up and rising prospect and not an established one.
With Mannion expected to miss the first part of the season, Alexander might get important minutes in coach Scariolo's rotations from the get going.
