Luigi Datome reflected on his three-year Presidential term and the growth ELPA was able to achieve during that period.
"Leading ELPA has been an incredible experience. In only 3 seasons we went from a group of players with a desire to create an association, to a union of players that has achieved first-ever collective agreement on an international scale. I’m proud of our work and I am thrilled that ELPA now has a new, ideal leader that will take us to the next level."
With that being said, Datome will remain an instrumental part of ELPA and join Jayson Granger, Mateusz Ponitka, Kyle Hines, Adam Hanga, and Nikola Kalinic as one of the Vice Presidents.
The new ELPA President, Tornike Shengelia, expressed his gratitude and excitement to be in this position and to lead European players.
"I am proud and at the same time humbled, to have the trust of my peers to lead ELPA. I have big shoes to fill. Gigi has been an incredible leader that took the first and most important step. He exposed himself and lead the process of making ELPA what it is today. I look forward to working with the guys on the Players’ Board and I am excited about the duty to achieve more things for this generation of players, and for the next!"
After two seasons as Vice Presidents, Janis Timma and Nihad Djedovic will step down from their roles in the Association.
ELPA signed off on the first-ever collective agreement with the EuroLeague in July, enforcing key points, like the guaranteed minimum salary, inclusion of player voice in the decision-making processes, limits on the length and duration of training camp and practices, mandatory monthly days off, and improvements on medical services for players.
