He first became the country's head coach in 2005 and worked there until 2010. He returned to his duties in 2015 and resigned after the Tokyo Olympics.
The Argentinian media reports that one of the main candidates for the job is a legendary Argentinian player Pablo Prigioni.
The 44-year-old represented the Argentinian NT for 11 years. He helped the country win bronze medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and silver medals at the 2019 World Cup.
Prigioni retired from playing basketball in 2017 and became the head coach of Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz that same year. However, he was relieved of his duties shortly after due to bad team results.
The ex-point guard was Kenny Atkinson's assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2018-19 NBA season. He currently works for the Minnesota Timberwolves and is responsible for the team's offensive schemes.
Another candidate to replace Hernandez for Argentina is Nestor Garcia. The 56-year-old has coached multiple South American clubs since the start of his coaching career in 1990.
Garcia has also coached four different National Teams - Uruguay (2003), Venezuela (2013-17), the Dominican Republic (2019), and Argentina (2012).
