Schiller after the third loss in a row: ‘There’s a lot of work to do’ / News - Basketnews.com
Zalgiris Kaunas lost the third game in the pre-season, and head coach Martin Schiller admitted that his team has a lot of work to do.
On a Wednesday evening, Zalgiris 69-76 lost to Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, and Schiller pointed out the lack of defensive urgency and poor shooting from the 3-point line.
“I wanna say that defensively it was similar like in Lietkabelis game, it took us a long time to get, and string stops together,” Schiller reflected. “When we were there (defensively), we were very active in the fourth quarter, but it took us a lot of time to get there.”
“Offensively, I thought, it was good. We got to the line often. Obviously, what was not good that we couldn’t make shots from the outside.
If you get to the line that often, it’s actually unbelievable that you can’t put more points up. We got to the line but didn’t shoot the ball very well,” Zalgiris coach added.
Asked about shot creation, Schiller admitted it will take time. Lithuanian champions made only five 3-pointers out of 25 attempts (20%).
“We have to watch it, of course, but there’s a lot of work to do to get open shots going. To move the basketball out of the pick’n’rolls correctly, depending on what the coverage is. There’s a lot of work to do”, – Schiller finished.
